March 2012 Meeting recap

Palm Beach County League of Cities
March 30, 2012

It was a sad meeting day for us, as we learned of the passing of West Palm Beach City Commissioner William 'Bill' Moss.  Mr. Moss had served on our Board of Directors since 2002, presiding as President from 2004 to 2005.  He also represented us on the Florida League of Cities' Board of Directors.  We appreciate his contributions and we'll miss him very much.

Thank you to the Town of Highland Beach and St. Lucy Catholic Church.  Our first visit to the town was memorable, and the church hall was beautifully decorated for Spring.  A few lucky members went home with the lovely centerpieces.

Board Meeting  The Board of Directors appointed South Palm Beach Councilor Robert Gottlieb to the County's Impact Fee Review Committee, and Royal Palm Beach Manager Ray Liggins to the Water Resource Task Force Technical Group.  The appointments were ratified at the General Membership meeting.

President Tropepe recognized the Nominating Committee and announced the 2012-2013 proposed slate of officers and Board of Directors (the slate can be seen at www.leagueofcities.org/board).  The Board also heard reports from the ITE Task Force, Treasure Coast Planning Council, and the Water Resource Task Force.

General Membership Meeting  Mayor Bernard Featherman welcomed us to Highland Beach, and introduced his Council and Department Heads.

President Tropepe announced next year's proposed slate to the general membership.  At the April meeting nominations can be made from the floor.

Our featured speaker was Lyle Sumek, DPA.  He is a popular speaker, already familiar to many of our members.  He specializes in team building, strategic planning, and goal setting for municipalities.

Our April meeting will be at the Atlantis Country Club in the City of Atlantis.  Join us as we award the 2012 Cruickshank Scholarships.
