January 2013 Meeting Recap

 

Palm Beach County League of Cities
January 24, 2013

We thank the City of Atlantis, Town of Haverhill and Solid Waste Systems for hosting our January meetings.
Board Meeting The Board approved changes to the League's committees, adding a member to the Fundraising Committee.   They also approved the Associate membership application of Marcum LLP.  Welcome to the League!

The City of Boca Raton's request for the League to do an amicus brief on their behalf was approved.

The Board made several appointments to the County/Regional Committees: Commissioner Allie Biggs of Pahokee and Honarary League Member Stephen Waldman were reappointed to the Advisory Boundary Committee, Commissioner Milton "Chip " Block of Jupiter Inlet Colony was appointed as an alternate to the Water Resource Task Force and Commissioner Sylvia Moffett of West Palm Beach was appointed to the Homeless Advisory Board. Congratulations to the candidates.

Committee Reports were heard from the ITE Task Force, Policy & Procedure, Transportation, the Lake Worth Lagoon Initiative Task Force and a Palm Tran Report from Councilor Wendy Harrison of Jupiter.

Executive Director Richard Radcliffe reported on the success of the December 12th Legislative Delegation Joint Workshop in Atlantis. Mr. Radcliffe presented a League survey which he will use to select future programs and items for discussion. The survey can be found at www.leagueofcities.com/forms.

General Membership  The Atlantis Color Guard prepared us for the pledge of allegiance. After we were welcomed by Mayor Michael Dahlgren of Atlantis and Mayor Jay Foy of Haverhill. Patti Hamilton with Southern Waste Systems addressed the group. County Commissioner Shelley Vana, whose district includes Atlantis, was present. County Commissioner Paulette Burdick was also in attendance.

Our featured speaker was Kathy Till of the Florida League of Cities, who gave an legislative session report.

League Counsel Trela White updated us on pertinent legal issues (for full report go to our News page).  Mr. Radcliffe informed members of the change of venue for next months meeting in Wellington. Also, the League is seeking hosts for our 2013 monthly meetings. 

Next month we meet at the International Polo Club Palm Beach, hosted by Wellington.
